Welcome to The Studio: The Life of A Freelance Creative
Hello there!
I'm Frances, a freelance print designer with a passion for all things design and creativity. After working in-house in London for several years, I now find myself freelancing from my home in York, where I live with my fiancé Ben - who is also a full time creative. We recently renovated our Victorian home to serve not only as a living space but also as a working studio where we can both pursue our various creative passions!
I've been toying with the idea of starting a blog to share my experiences and insights with the world for a while now, and I finally ran out of excuses not to start - so here we are!
Niche
I've seen a lot of successful creators talk about the importance of finding a niche when it comes to blogging, so let's begin there. My niche (as I see it) is exploring all the ways in which design, creativity, and lifestyle can combine. As an introverted freelancer who LOVES working from home, I'm passionate about curating a space that both inspires and supports my creative endeavors. I believe that our surroundings can have such a huge impact on our productivity and wellbeing and I’d love to explore more about how that affects my own creative practice. During our home renovation (@itsnotsogrimupnorth on instagram for anyone who’s interested) both me and my partner fell completely in love with designing and decorating our house, resulting in a cosy colourful space filled with personal objects that bring us both joy and inspiration - the perfect place to design.
In the studio
I’d also love to talk more about the challenges and rewards of working from home as a creative print designer, offer tips for designing in a productive, inspiring workspace and share any inspiration I find that informs my own work and our home.
I’m constantly on the hunt for new inspiration. Whether it’s from vintage botanical illustrations i’ve thrifted at a car boot sale, a colour palette from a painting or a particular Pinterest picture I can’t stop looking at, I’m keen to share the things that ignite my creativity - however small they may sometimes be. Of course I’ll be sharing snippets of my own design work along the way; a behind the scenes look at my day to day process, my current projects and anything else that takes my fancy!
As I embark on this blogging journey, I'm excited to share my experiences, insights, and thoughts with you. Freelancing can often be a lonely pursuit, and I'd love to spark more conversation between like-minded individuals who are passionate about design, creativity, and making the most of our living (and working) spaces. Whether you're a fellow freelancer, a design enthusiast, or simply someone who appreciates beautiful yet functional interiors, I invite you to join me on this adventure.
I really appreciate you taking the time to read my first blog post. I'm eager to see where this could lead and I’d love to hear your thoughts and feedback in the comments and on social media!
Until next time,
Frances
